Welcome to the website of the “Computing and Embedded Systems, IoT, and Optimization” (CESIO, http://cesio.uniwa.gr) laboratory of the Department of Informatics and Computer Engineering at the University of West Attica.

The laboratory focuses on the following academic and research areas:

  • Computer Systems Architecture and Technology with an emphasis on security (hardware security, hardware implementation of cryptographic algorithms and cybersecurity), high performance (high-performance computing, HPC), and reliability.
  • Technologies and Design for Internet of Things (IoT) with smart technologies (home, cities, agriculture).
  • Technology, Design, and Programming of Autonomous Unmanned Vehicles (aerial, ground drones).
  • Accelerators for AI Applications and Neuromorphic Computing using FPGA technology.
  • Hardware Design for Special Purpose Applications (e.g., AI and blockchain applications).
  • Hardware Implementation for Edge Computing using FPGA technologies.
  • Optimization Techniques.
  • Graph and Network Algorithms.
  • Discrete Optimization.
  • Constraint Programming.
  • Optimization with Preferences.
  • Economic Applications of Discrete Structures.

The activities of the Laboratory include:

  • Conducting research in the aforementioned areas.
  • Covering teaching needs at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
  • Collaborating and exchanging scientific knowledge with other Academic Institutions or research centers in Greece or abroad, provided that their scientific objectives coincide or complement those of the Laboratory in a spirit of mutuality and collectivity. Within the framework of collaboration, teaching and research needs of inter-institutional collaborations in which the University of West Attica participates can be met.
  • Organizing scientific lectures, workshops, seminars, symposia, conferences, and exhibitions, as well as publishing, issuing publications, and inviting recognized Greek and foreign scientists and other personalities.
  • Cooperating with public sector entities, local government organizations, scientific and social bodies, as well as international organizations and associations, to contribute to the study and submission of proposals and alternative methods for addressing problems that fall within the Laboratory’s research interests.
  • Collaborating with private entities, private laboratories, and industries for the preparation of studies, addressing problems, and promoting research in subjects that fall within the Laboratory’s research interests.
  • Undertaking advisory or developmental projects and studies aimed at meeting societal needs, as well as undertaking and implementing national and international research projects.
  • Providing services in accordance with academic ethics in the subjects of the laboratory.
  • Preparing studies and technical specifications on issues related to the Laboratory’s fields of expertise.
